Pulling photos off the internet is illegal – plain and simple- that is the law.
If you didn’t create the picture, it isn’t yours to use. It makes no difference if you leave the watermark, or if you are in the photo. It doesn’t matter that Facebook gives you a download option. It doesn’t matter if everyone else is doing it. It doesn’t matter if you give “photo credit,” it simply isn’t worth the financial gamble if a photographer wants to sue you.
I copyright /protect all photos with the US Copyright office quarterly. Once photographers register with the copyright office you lose, just get out your checkbook.. seriously, you will be making payments to the photographer you infringed upon. I share this not to be nasty about the subject, but to enlighten you on the subject, as it is my sincere hope that those who currently violate the law, simply don’t know better.. contrary to what you may think, photographers are NOT happy to see their work suddenly appear in print, on websites and other uses without their knowledge, consent or compensation.. “Photo credit” is as insulting to us as, “work for the door” or “exposure” or yelling “Freebird” is to you…
The policy of Sherry Shoots Shows is unique & does NOT apply to other photographers, only to my photos posted on Facebook. I provide online watermarked photos for you to use by sharing on Facebook to help you promote your bands image, upcoming shows and profiles..
Photos may not be altered/filtered or cropped to remove the watermark. They cannot be illegally downloaded or printed. I provide these because I love the local music circle and musicians, & believe it helps us both. You have quality photos for promo, and people are exposed to my photographic eye, and name. I also provide you, at my expense, with a dedicated online gallery of your band photos where you can purchase prints, merchandise, web photos for your website, or high resolution files for printing. So, if you need a photo, buy it, it’s a “legal steal”, and.. it’s the right thing to do!
SherryShootsShows retains the copyright to all photos. Unauthorized use &/or screen snips are subject to legal action by any photographer you infringe upon.
